New Washing Machine

December 8th, 2009 at 06:39 am

Finally bought a new washing machine today. My old one still works BUT just barely. The cloths are drenched when they are done. It takes forever to get them dry. I can't complain too much cause the washer is somethong like 17 years old.

The new washer wont be delivered till after Christmas but I'm not in that much of a rush. I think I got a great deal on it. It originally was $499 but was on sale for $449. Plus they took off another 10 percent on that. They will deliver and haul off the old machine for free. So I'm (a little to) excited. :-)

Nothing much else financial to report except they fired quite a few people at my store on Monday. Basically they say that the store made good money but not what they wanted so they were told to eliminate a bunch of new people. They also say that we are getting our hours greatly reduced after Christmas. Thats WITH the store making good profits. We are getting a bonus on my next paycheck. Just think if we were losing money.

Ha ha ha... it's funny what excites us frugal folks! I'm sure you'll see quite a difference with the new washer. It should be so much more efficient!

Congrats on the washing machine. I know you've mentioned several times that you needed a new one.

I hope your job remains secure in 2010. If they kept saying things are going well (just not well enough) that might be a way of camouflaging sagging sales, keeping morale up and avoiding having people jump ship. Especially with them laying people off; if I were in your shoes, I would do everything I could in anticipation of a possible layoff. I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but I think my actions would be based not on what they say, but on what they do.

Thanks dmontngrey. Yes I should see a big difference in my cloths getting washed better and in being more energy efficient.

Thanks Fern. I understand and agree to some extent with your comments. I am trying to prepare as best as I can for such an event. But I don't think my store is doing very badly. Of course the recession has affected everyone but overall our store does very well. I think its mostly greed. In any case I already re-evaluated my budget and cut out the "fat". But my budget is pretty skimpy to begin with so there isn't a lot of fat to be cut. I think so far I can cut it by $90 a month fairly easily. I'll have to improvise from there as necerssary. I always appreciate your comments and advice Fern.
