Payday goal update

February 20th, 2009 at 06:22 am

Doing pretty well with my goals i think, although in a way I'm cheating a bit. Basically I pad my checking account way more than I really should. In some ways thats a bad thing but it gives me peace of mind in that I never have any fees or
or shortages. I also do receive a small amount of interest on my checking. Anyways, I was way too
padded in my checking so I sat down and calculated my expenses and decided that
I could easily tranfer $1700 from my checking into my saving for my IRA.
So that put me over the 4000 i was saving for this years IRA. So thats a goal completed! YAY ME! Even if I did cheat a little.

With my current paycheck I'm paying myself back $54 more dollars for the car repairs in december. Now I only owe myself $90. I'm putting $40 towards my extra mortgage for Feb. and putting $10 towards my 2010 IRA goal. So I think its coming along very nicely. Everything I've listed is either on track or ahead of the plan.

I need to buy a few things. They really are needs not wants. I need a new razor, a few work cloths, and a new pair of shoes. I pretty much already have the money for these things. I try to save up for these kinds of things separately though. I also need to do some home repairs this spring or summer that could be difficult to save up for.
First things first though. I'll buy the razor sometime in the next couple of days. My old razors are either dead or shave like a club. Its time for a new one.

I got a message on my answering machine when I got home tonight that the bank want me to call them. I don't think its anything bad but that sort of call is always a little scary. I'll make a post tommorrow to let anyone that may care know what they want.

i want to know what the banks wanted! i care! Smile
good stuff on transferring the 'padding'. I too like to keep a couple of hundred as padding. once we have a mortgage i think i will be more like you and have a thousand or two.

Me too! I want to know.

Great job on the IRA savings. Did you know that the max for an IRA is $5K? Might as well put any extra in now rather than wait until 2010. Prices are low!

Make sure the bank wanting you to call them is legitimate, and that the number you are calling is really their number and not some random scammer trying to get your bank information over the phone!! That type of scam was happening in our area regularly last year.

Thanks everyone. Yep it was really the bank that called. I have some of my IRA money in openheimer funds through my bank. My name popped up on their list
to give their yearly thing where they take a look at your account to see any changes that need made. I just talked to them in October so they said I could wait till then. I told him that they scared me though.

Whitestripe - You are doing great. I'm sure it wont take you long to pad up your checking. I could never do like most people and try to keep a zero balance on mine. It would drive me crazy.

Creditcardfree - Yep I know the max is 5 k. and it would be nice. But I have a pretty limited single income and its a struggle saving up for all the various things I need to save for. So thats why I set my IRA goals lower than I could. I am thinking of thinking of some other alternatives if I come up with any extra money though.
