2009 goals and a few updates.

January 7th, 2009 at 02:48 am

I was leaving a friend's house this evening and failed to notice it was freezing rain. I fell down the steps and hit the back of my head pretty hard. Fortunately my head is very hard and I'm ok. Then being a bit rattled and holding on to my car door not to fall down again I ended up locking myself out of my car while it was running. AAA came to my rescue so no serious harm done.
Man I haven't seen it so icy out in ages.
Maybe the blow to my head knocked some sense in to me. LOL. Not likely.
Anyways I decided to finally post my 2009
goals.

1) Pay myself back (into my checking account) the money I spent on some recent car repairs. The total is $344 but I've already paid myself a little of that back.

2) Also pay muself back for a car battery I had to buy. (about $70)

3)Add $400 to what I have in my E-Fund. That will put it over 2000 which is simply the best I can do for now. My eventual goal is still 12,000 for the EFund.

4) Hold off on all my smaller "funds" that I'm saving for just temporarily until I get the other more important things taken care of.

5)Continue saving for a total of $4000 to put in 2009 IRA. I'm not sure right now exactly whats in it but probably only half way there right now.

6) Put $4000 into 2009 IRA. Use money from regular savings to make up anu difference from goal number 5.

7) Start saving $3000 towards 2010 IRA.

8)Try to have my first ever yard sale around May.
9) Go camping and canoeing with my nephew and his son at least once. I will go camping in some way or another at least 3 times.

10)Try to take a real vacation this year that I wasn't able to do last year. Possibly Costa Rica around July or August.

11) Pay at least $100 extra on Mortage principal every month. I'm trying to pay off my house within nthe next 3 years.

12) keep using Quicken. I really didn't do as good with this one last year as I had hoped but I did improve on tracking my accounts and will continue to work on it.

Thats all of my goals for now. I plan on adding or tweaking them as I need to.

I feel I did good on my 2008 goals even though they were not as detailed as most of yours. I tried to be a little bit more specific this year.
I wish us all a great 2009.

Glad to hear that you are OK. It is icy here where I am also. Great goals for '09!

Thanks Blue Eyes for the nice comment. I did scare myself on that fall. I guess I'm pretty indestructable though.

I am also going to make it a goal to post on here when I complete a goal. My first 2 goals wont take long to
accomplish at all. Some of the other goals are ongoing ones that may just never totally be completed.

We had freezing rain on Saturday. Slid out of our driveway in our van, then couldn't get back up! Didn't realize it was getting icy until we backed out. Take care.

Great job on the goals, too.

I fell last year on iced snow and hit my hip and my head and had to drag myself and 4 dogs back into my daughter's condo in Reno, NV... wahhh. As soon as there was clearance in the weather, I drove back home 6+ hours to the coast of California, taking all dogs with me cause I didn't want to stay in the snow/ice anymore. DH was not happy to have 2 big dogs and our 2 little dogs back at home. Sorry that happened to you!

Thanks for the comments creditcardfree and homebody.

Wow thats something homebody. I hope you were not injured too severely and got better soon after all that happened?

I was lucky I fell kinda flat and didn't hit the corner of the step or then I could have been really hurt.

Any reason your goal is to put $4000 into IRA instead of $5000? Did you put any in for 2008? You still can, til April 15. The limit for 2008 and 2009 is $5000.

It took a week or so to feel better. But let me tell you being in Reno for Christmas this year with frozen sidewalks everywhere, I held onto DH when out walking and finally went and bought some rock salt stuff at Bed, Bath and Beyond. It was really bad around OD's apartment walkway.

Looks like you have some good goals there! And hope your head is better!!

cptacek - Yes basically the reason for putting 4000 instead of 5000 is that I can't really afford the extra.
Thats why I'm lowering (at least right now) for 2010 to 3000 cause even 4000 is a bit steep for me.

Yes I did put $4000 in for 2008 too.

homebody - Glad you got better fairly quicky at least. I didn't realize that it gets so icy in Reno either.

Kopper - Thanks too. I'm feeling good. Just a few achy
muscles from falling but not even a bruise.
